Roman Theater in Orange

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ancient Theatre of Orange is one of the jewels of Imperial Rome.

From a major center of the performing arts to a refuge during the Wars of Religion, and later serving as a defensive outpost and prison during the Revolution, its history is as rich as it is eventful. Restored in the 19th century, it has returned to its original vocation: hosting the world’s greatest artists, from Sarah Bernhardt to David Guetta, Placido Domingo and Hans Zimmer.

A living monument that continues to thrill audiences, between memory and modernity.

SUMMER EVENTS

From July 4 to August 13, enjoy our summer activities!

For the fifth consecutive year, the Ancient Theater invites families to meet The Guardians of History : key figures who have left their mark on the monument’s 2,000-year history. Marullus, Sarah Bernhardt, Auguste Caristie, Tiburge, and many other figures who have shaped the history of the site bring to life the great moments of the theater and the city of Orange.
A concept that is at once personal, entertaining, and enriching, allowing everyone to immerse themselves in this past as if they were actually there.

Incredible experience As someone who loves the history of the Roman Empire, this was a real pleasure to visit. There are several things in place for a fun visit: * (extra charge, not to be regretted) a virtual reality experience that explains the golden age of this theater still in use today * an escape game in the entire site (available in French and English) There is also a small museum opposite (and souvenir store) with the same ticket. Audio guides for the theater are available at the museum opposite ✨️
