In the time of Caesar Augustus - Educational workshops
During the October holidays, the Roman Theatre of Orange is offering a programme of fun and educational workshops for schoolchildren.
From 23 to 31 October (autumn half-term), children will enjoy learning about Roman times with 6 exciting workshops led by cultural and historical experts.
WORKSHOPS
"Oil lamp" workshop
Children taking part in this workshop will be able make and take home a small oil lamp, inspired by archaeological discoveries.
"Calligraphy" workshop
Children taking part in this workshop will be introduced to the art of calligraphy using various different materials (clay tablet and reed pen, wax tablet and stylus etc.).
"Masks" workshop
Children taking part in this workshop will research the masks used in Roman theatre, make their own mask and work on the different features of masks.
"Olympic sports" workshops
Most children have dreamed of competing at the Olympic Games. In this workshop, they will try out the sports played by Olympic athletes in Ancient Times.
"Boxing" workshop
Children taking part in this workshop will find out all about the sports played in Ancient Times, particularly focusing on the Ancient Olympic version of boxing.
"Gladiators" workshop
Children taking part in this workshop will find out about the weapons used by Roman gladiators and can dress up and try out the equipment.
Free to all at no extra charge, no booking required.
Workshop times: 10:30 am, 1:30 pm, 3:00 pm, 4:30 pm.
Workshops last 1 hour.
